Veterans XI - WIN ON DEBUT!

Our Veterans team have won their first ever game!

Ian Scholefield tossed the coin at the beginning of the game and the Burra Old Blokes went into bat.

The captain Darren Veitch started aggressively before falling for 13. The Paroissien brothers Greg and Doug went on the attack and both b 42 before retiring. Ben Killeen (35) and Steve Bownley (25) took over and continued the high pace of scoring. The boundaries dried up a bit after their innings, but David Winteron, Adrian Reus and Mark Blundell took the score up over 220 at the end of 36 overs.

Deakin were never in the run chase and the ball was thrown around to the different bowlers in the team. So were the gloves with Bert AhCheen opening the bowling but finishing the game with the gloves on, with a runout and a stumping to his name. He had great support with Mark Pengilly giving some sound advice behind the stumps.

6 bowlers took a wicket each and Mike Jacobs was impressive with the ball in his first game of cricket since his schools days. However it was Steve Wood who took 2 wickets that stole the show. A fantastic one handed catch to his left by Veitchie off Steve’s bowling was the highlight of the day!
